The Maharashtra government has declared September 29 a public holiday to facilitate the festivities and efficient management of religious processions. This decision has come when both Ananta Chaturdashi and Eid-e-Milad fall on the same day, i.e., tomorrow, September 28. The announcement was made when the All India Khilafat Committee, a leading religious and social organization, approached Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
After this, the Maharashtra government announced the Eid-e-Milad holiday on September 29 at the request of Muslim leaders. This year, Ananta Chaturdashi and the last day of the ten-day Ganesh Utsav is on September 28, and the same day is Eid-e-Milad, a festival celebrated as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
According to a statement, processions are taken out in Mumbai and other places during Ananta Chaturdashi and Eid-e-Milad. Given this, the representatives of All India Khilafat requested Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to find a solution.
Shinde said, “The delegation has requested that Friday, September 29, be declared a holiday so that the police can make arrangements for the procession on both days (September 28 and 29). The state government has also decided to declare Friday as a government holiday.” After this announcement, there will be a weekend in the state after Thursday and Friday and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti holiday on October 2.
