The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has announced the permanent closure of its embassy in New Delhi. Releasing an official statement on the closure of its diplomatic mission in New Delhi, the Afghan Embassy said that due to continuous challenges from the Indian government, they are closing their embassy permanently. It further said that it will be effective from November 23, 2023.
Let us tell you that this decision was taken after the closure of the embassy operations on September 30. This step was born in the hope that the attitude of the Government of India would change favourably to allow the mission to operate normally.
However, another reason for this has also come to light: he could not give salary and other facilities to his employees; hence, he had to make this decision. Let us tell you that the diplomatic mission of Afghanistan in India has been operational since 2001.
What Did Congress MPs Say On The Closure Of Afghan Embassy?
On Afghanistan’s announcement of the permanent closure of the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi, Congress MP Manish Tewari said that it is clear from the letter written by the Afghan Embassy that they were forced to close due to the non-cooperation extended by the NDA-BJP government and had to happen. This is an attempt to appease the Taliban government in Kabul. India has always been a voice of morality and has stood for values and principles at international forums.

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan wrote a formal note to the Ministry of External Affairs of India stating that as per Vienna Convention Article 45, if a diplomatic mission is closed, the other country must respect and safeguard the mission’s premises, including property and records. The Afghan Embassy requests assistance from the Ministry to transfer financial resources, official stamps, vehicles, and all other assets.
