Students In This State Are Waiting For MBBS Seats To Increase, Young People Leave Their Homes Every Year

Jharkhand MBBS Seats: Jharkhand students seeking admission to medical colleges eagerly await an increase in seats. Compared to neighbouring states, Jharkhand has significantly fewer MBBS seats, despite the large number of students qualifying for the NEET UG exam each year. While seats in government medical colleges in Jharkhand remain unchanged, neighbouring Bihar has added 430 new seats.

Students Are Vying For A Total Of 1,055 Seats.

Jharkhand Government Medical Colleges (including Deoghar AIIMS) have 1,055 MBBS seats. Of these, 563 are under the state quota. There has been no increase this year. In contrast, Bihar saw an increase of 430 seats, bringing the total number of seats to 3,170. Both government and private medical colleges will open admissions to these seats from the new session (2025-26).

Students From Jharkhand Have To Go Abroad.

Seats have been expanded at Patna Medical College in Bihar. Initially, there were 150 seats, which have now increased to 250. Meanwhile, around 3,000 students qualify for the medical entrance exam in Jharkhand every year, but many have to go abroad due to a lack of seats.

Possibility Of Increasing Seats At RIMS

According to information received, RIMS (Ranchi), the state’s largest medical institution, currently has only 180 MBBS seats available. The process to increase this to 250 is underway, but a final decision has not yet been made. The RIMS administration is preparing to send a letter to the National Medical Commission (NMC), which will be processed through the state government and the health department.

According to a report published in the Ranchi edition of Prabhat Khabar newspaper, RIMS Director Dr Rajkumar stated that the process to increase MBBS seats at RIMS is underway. It is expected that 250 seats will be filled this year. The NMC will be requested to increase seats through the Chief Minister. The NMC’s seat increase order does not include RIMS.

Relief for Private Medical Colleges

Students in Jharkhand’s private medical colleges have certainly received some relief. This year, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has granted Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital, Jamshedpur, permission to enrol 100 students for the first time. Meanwhile, the Manipal-Tata Medical College, Jamshedpur, has increased its seats to 150.

Students Face Stiff Competition

This brings the total number of MBBS seats in Jharkhand, including government and private colleges, to 1,205. However, this number is still significantly lower than in Bihar. This is why thousands of talented medical aspirants in the state are forced to move abroad or face tough competition for limited opportunities.
