Good News For Namo Bharat Train Passengers, They Will Get This Special Facility

There’s some good news for travellers travelling on the Namo Bharat Train (Rapid Rail). Passengers will no longer need to exit the station to travel between Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. The NCRTC has constructed a 280-meter-long skywalk (footoverbridge) connecting the two stations. This will make commuting between the Namo Bharat Train and the railway station much easier and safer. This will be the first time passengers at any NCRTC station in Delhi will have access to such a facility.

Six Travelators Installed on the Skywalk

According to the NCRTC, civil works on the Skywalk have been completed, and six travelators have been installed. These travelators will operate exactly like escalators, except they do not use stairs. Passengers will stand on the travelator and move forward automatically. Work is underway to construct the Sky Walk roof, and it is expected to be open to the general public by March.

Why was the Sky Walk necessary?

The distance between Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station is approximately 300 meters. While this distance may not seem significant, heavy traffic often creates significant difficulties for commuters crossing the road. Due to poor connectivity, commuting between stations was time-consuming and risky. The opening of the Sky Walk will benefit women, older adults, children, and passengers with disabilities the most.

Sarai Kale Khan to Become a Multimodal Transport Hub

Sarai Kale Khan station is one of the largest on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and is being developed into a major multimodal transport hub. This means passengers will be able to travel easily between modes of transport from now on. This station will be connected to the Namo Bharat Train, the Metro’s Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT, and the Ring Road Bus Stand.

60,000 passengers daily

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS (Rapid Rail Transit System) corridor is 82 kilometres long, connecting densely populated cities like Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. Currently, a 55-kilometre section with 11 stations is operational, while the remaining sections, such as Sarai Kale Khan-New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South-Modipuram, are slated to open soon.
