According to media reports, the US space agency NASA is building a new supersonic jet. It is expected to be the first to break the sound barrier without causing a sonic boom. It has been named the X-59 jet. It was built in association with NASA aerospace company Lockheed.

It is also believed that this aircraft will be more hi-tech than Concorde. Concorde is also a supersonic aircraft built jointly by England and France. This aircraft was unsuccessful, so its production was stopped years ago.

In this case, a NASA official said this aircraft is officially called ‘Lockheed Martin X-59 QueSST’. Its purpose is to achieve a speed faster than the speed of sound silently. Trials are going on regarding this, due to which it is expected that it will be in the air soon.

When Will It Fly?

According to media reports, there are plans to fly the X-59 to several US cities in 2024. This will test the intensity of sound waves and the aircraft’s speed. Apart from this, it will also be seen what the reaction of humans to the sound generated during supersonic flight is.

How Many People Will Be Able To Travel?

Seeing the pictures of this aircraft, experts claim that only two people can sit in it. However, its commercial version is also expected to be ready.

What is Sonic Boom?

The speed of sound is 332 meters per second. When something crosses this speed, its speed is called supersonic speed. On the other hand, as soon as an aircraft crosses the speed of sound, a loud sound comes out. That itself is called Sonic Boom. Efforts are being made to reduce this sound through this aircraft.
