London’s historic Tower Bridge on the River Thames was opened for a boat to pass around 1.15 p.m. on Thursday, but after that, it got stuck in it. Due to this, there was a gathering of vehicles on both sides of the bridge. According to a report by the Independent, at that time, the historic boat Adieu was to pass under the bridge.
However, after opening the bridge, there was a lot of difficulty in closing the bridge. Due to this, there was a lot of chaos on the streets of London. People present at the spot said that it took more than half an hour. An eyewitness said, ‘At first, I felt happy to see the bridge open, but then I realized that something was wrong; the bridge had been open for so long, I looked at it for a while. There was a lot of traffic on the roads. There was a traffic jam due to the number of vehicles along with two tourist buses waiting on the bridge.’
He said that when the bridge closed after a long wait, people jumped with joy. The person said, ‘For the first time, I saw a seal in the Thames, which I had never seen before. When the bridge finally closed, first, the bikes were allowed to pass, and then, after some time, the traffic was stopped.’
According to Metro UK, the failure of the bridge cut off an essential route in central London. It took a lot of effort to lower the hydraulically operated bascules bridge back down.
