Vistara Cuts Flights to Manage Pilot Crisis, May Push Up Ticket Prices

Tata Group’s aviation company, Vistara, has prepared a new plan to overcome the crisis that has been going on since last week. Under the new plan, the company will reduce the number of flights this month. In such a situation, there is a danger of air travel becoming expensive.

The Company Gave This Information

Last week, Vistara was forced to cancel hundreds of flights due to the crisis arising from pilot resignations and mass leave. More than 150 Vistara flights were cancelled in the first three days. The company has now decided to cancel about 10 per cent of the flights for this entire month. The company provided information about this in a statement issued on Sunday.

This Reduction In Daily Flights

Vistara currently operates around 350 flights every day. To operate properly despite the shortage of pilots, the company plans to reduce daily flights by 20-30, which equals about 10 per cent of its total daily flights. The company has also said cancelling flights will most impact domestic routes.

There Will Be More Impact On Such Routes

Aviation industry experts fear that the cancellation of 10 per cent of Vistara’s flights for April may impact air passengers. Other flights on routes that will be cancelled may become expensive, especially on those routes where Vistara operates more. For example, the company operates 18 daily flights on the busy Delhi-Mumbai route, less than only IndiGo’s 19 daily flights.

Received This Notice From The Regulator

Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) further escalated its crisis by sending a notice to Vistara regarding pilot training. DGCA’s notice concerns Zero Flight Time Training (ZFTT), which has put the training of many pilots on hold. Many Vistara pilots are already unhappy with the company’s new pay structure and other reasons.
