India to Send Humans to Space and Deep Sea by 2025, Space Sector Sees Surge in Startups

On Thursday, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge) Jitendra Singh said India is ready to send the first human-crewed mission to space and deep sea by 2025. Four passengers have been selected for India’s human space mission Gaganyaan.

These include Air Force Group Captains Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap, Ajit Krishnan, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla. The ISRO Gaganyaan mission aims to send a human-crewed three-day mission to space, which will return after orbiting 400 km above the Earth.

Humans Will Go 6 KM Inside The Indian Ocean

At the same time, India’s deep-sea mission will go to the deep sea in 2025 carrying three Indians. The crew mission will be sent to a depth of 6,000 meters in the Indian Ocean on Matsya 6000, an initiative of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, known as Samudrayaan.

The Science and Technology Minister also highlighted the recent advancements in the space sector. He said that in 2022, we had only one space startup. After opening the space sector for private participation in 2024, we have around 200 startups, many of which have global potential. In just a few months, private sector investment of Rs 1,000 crore has entered the space sector.
