Free LPG cylinder: If you live in Uttar Pradesh, there’s good news for you. The Yogi government is offering a special gift to 17.5 million women this Diwali (Diwali 2025): a free LPG cylinder. This Diwali, women in Uttar Pradesh are being assisted by the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
However, not all women will receive a free cylinder. Let us explain under which scheme the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is offering free gas cylinders and what you need to do to receive them.
What is the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme?
This scheme is only for women who are eligible beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (Ujjwala Yojana). The Uttar Pradesh government provides free cylinders to Ujjwala consumers during festivals. To do this, women must first purchase a cylinder from an agency, and then the government transfers the subsidy amount to their bank accounts. This means that the cylinder is provided free of charge through government reimbursement.
E-KYC is mandatory:
To avail the free cylinder, women must first complete their e-KYC. To do this, visit the official Ujjwala Yojana website and click on the e-KYC tab.
Select your gas company (such as Indane, HP, or Bharat Gas) and follow the instructions. If you wish, you can also visit the nearest gas agency to complete your e-KYC. Failure to do so may result in payment delays; therefore, it is essential to complete it promptly.
How to avail the benefits of the PM Ujjwala Yojana
Women who have not yet enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana must first apply for enrollment. Under this scheme, eligible women receive a free gas connection, stove, regulator, pipe, and first refilled cylinder. Additionally, a subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder is provided for a maximum of nine cylinders per year. The subsidy on the 5 kg small cylinder is determined by weight.
It is worth noting that only women aged 18 years or older are eligible to apply for this scheme.
