The second month of 2026 began today, and it started with several major changes, the biggest of which concerns FASTag. From today, February 1, 2026, the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has made a significant change to a major rule related to FASTag. If you also use FASTag, we’ll let you know which FASTag-related rule has changed.
Now, car owners have been given relief by eliminating the hassle of repeated KYC verification for FASTag. After this change, the entire responsibility will now rest with the banks that issue FASTags. Banks will now have to conduct a thorough verification of the vehicle and its owner before issuing a FASTag.
NHAI has discontinued the KYC process
Once a FASTag is activated, you will not need any additional KYC verification. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has discontinued the ‘Know Your Vehicle’ (KYV) process for issuing new FASTags.

According to an NDTV report, the government release stated that this reform will provide significant relief to millions of people who were facing difficulties and delays due to KYV requirements after FASTag activation, even though they possessed the correct vehicle documents.
For FASTags already issued for cars, KYV will no longer be required as a regular procedure. KYV will be required only in specific cases where complaints are received, such as loose FASTags, incorrect issuance, or misuse. In the absence of any complaints, KYV will not be required for existing car FASTags.
