India’s automobile export sector has started 2026 with a strong performance. The January figures clearly reflect the growing demand for Indian vehicles in global markets. According to the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), a leading automobile manufacturers’ organisation, a total of 76,822 vehicles were exported from India in January 2026, up from 57,585 in January 2025. This represents a 33.4% year-on-year increase in total exports.
Passenger Vehicle Segment
Among several categories, the passenger vehicle (PV) segment performed the best. In January 2026, 37,329 passenger vehicles were shipped abroad, up 43.6% from 25,990 units in the same period last year. The utility vehicle (UV) category also saw a significant increase. This segment recorded exports of 38,421 units, up 26.1% from 30,457 in January 2025. However, the van category saw a slight decline, with exports falling from 1,138 units to 1,072 units.
Toyota Hyrider Sales
Looking at the export figures for December 2025, Toyota’s Toyota Hyrider led the charts with 5,164 units, up from 4,500 in December 2024. Maruti Suzuki’s Maruti Jimny and Maruti eVitara also performed well. While exports of the Maruti Fronx declined, exports of Mahindra & Mahindra’s Mahindra XUV 3XO increased.
Commercial Vehicle Segment
The commercial vehicle segment also saw positive trends. The Mahindra Scorpio pickup remains in demand in both domestic and international markets. The large export order of 35,000 units from an Indonesian state-owned company is a significant achievement in this direction. This is considered the largest export contract to date and demonstrates the strength of Indian manufacturing capabilities. Overall, the start of 2026 has signalled that the Indian auto industry is steadily strengthening its foothold on the global stage.
