It was 2007 when businessman Richard Branson wanted to buy an island. He even purchased Mosquito Island. This is where the story of celebrity and luxury can be understood. A story that is a testament to the glittering world and grandeur. Later, this entire land was divided into parts. People built their homes on some of the parts, and others are rented out.
Wanted to impress his wife
Before Mosquito Island, Richard, then 29, had also purchased an island in 1978. It was Necker Island, a 74-acre island. He wanted to impress his future wife, Joan Templeman. But he didn’t get it at that time. The matter was stuck on the price.
$100,000, not $6 million
Richard offered only $100,000 for the $6 million island. Therefore, the deal fell through. Then, about a year later, he made an offer of $180,000, which he accepted and purchased Necker Island. However, there was a condition: he had to build a resort on the island within just four years.
Why is Mosquito Island special?
The Mosquito Island that Richard purchased 19 years ago is now significant because it has been divided into 10 plots. These are private homes for individuals, offering access to amenities like beaches and tennis courts. People like MGM Resorts Chairman Paul Salem have purchased homes here. The island is located two miles from Necker.
9 Owners on 10 Residential Plots
Richard later began developing Mosquito Island, dividing it into 10 plots, each owned by nine families. In 2021, Richard announced that people could rent out his property. Three of these villas have now been rented out.
