US Vice President JD Vance warned companies that only American citizens should be employed within the United States. This would truly fulfil President Trump’s vision of “Make America Great Again.” America is and will remain a superpower; we cannot tolerate any business that seeks to dissuade American citizens from employing them for personal gain. The Trump administration will not tolerate any system that suggests the intention of taking American jobs away from Americans and replacing them with foreigners.
A clear warning to American businesses!
He urged companies not to use visa programs to replace local workers with low-paid foreigners. Addressing a Republican Party election rally in Hendersonville, North Carolina, Vance stated that President Trump’s administration is committed to ensuring that companies do not exploit immigration programs to reduce labour costs.
Vance said, “What I’m most proud of is that we will never allow large companies to abuse visa programs and replace hardworking American workers in North Carolina with people who work in conditions that are almost like bonded labour.”
His comments come at a time when debate is raging over employment-based immigration, particularly the H-1B visa program. However, Vance did not directly mention the H-1B visa in his speech, nor did he announce any new restrictions on the program.
Explaining to the People
Vance’s remarks clearly indicated that the administration believes employment-based immigration should not be used to displace American workers or keep wages low. The Vice President linked this issue to the administration’s broader immigration and economic policy, saying that the primary objective of government policies should be to prioritise American citizens.
He said, “American jobs should go to American citizens, not to those who lack the legal right to work here.”
Vance also clarified that his target is companies that replace American employees with foreign workers, not those that legally employ workers in the United States on visas.
There’s a ruckus over H-1B visas!
Under the H-1B visa program, American companies can temporarily employ qualified foreign professionals in specialised fields such as engineering, information technology, medicine, and scientific research. Unlike unauthorised workers, H-1B visa holders are allowed to work legally under the rules set by the sponsoring companies.
Referring to the ongoing debate on immigration, Vance claimed that the administration has significantly reduced illegal border crossings and reversed migration trends. He said that due to strict immigration action, the United States has experienced “negative net migration for the first time in the last 50 years.”
Vance also criticised previous trade and immigration policies. He argued that these policies harmed manufacturing communities in North Carolina and other parts of the United States. He linked immigration control to the administration’s larger economic strategy, which aims to protect domestic jobs, strengthen industries, and raise wages.
Vance’s comments came during a campaign rally supporting Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
