The re-modelling work of this platform was completed in October 2013, after which its name was recorded in the Limca Book of World Records. The combined length of platforms 1 and 2 of this railway junction is 1366.4 meters. There is no more extended platform anywhere in the world.
Kharagpur Record Broken
Even before this, the most extended platform’s record was in India’s name only. These platforms were in Kharagpur, West Bengal. Its length was 1072.5 meters. However, after re-modelling, the combined length of platforms number-1 and 2 of Gorakhpur Junction exceeded this, after which the crown of the world’s most comprehensive platform was snatched.
170 Trains Pass Daily
According to the report, the length of this platform of Gorakhpur Railway Junction is so much that two trains with 26 coaches can be parked there simultaneously. A large number of trains come and go daily at this junction. About 170 trains pass through this junction daily. When people come to know that their train is standing on the most extended platform in the world, they are surprised.
