We have decided to meet again on August 25 and go for a site inspection on August 26.

At the same time, Assam’s Border Security and Development Minister Atul Bora said we discussed three disputed areas today. We heard the side of the Government of Meghalaya. Ministers, legislators and top officials of both states were present at the meeting.

He said that the officers, especially the district commissioners, have been asked to ascertain the ground reality thoroughly and submit a fresh report in the next meeting, which will be held on August 25. Bora said that on August 26, the committees would visit West Dimoria (Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam) for a joint inspection.

Know What The Dispute Is

Meghalaya state was formed by dividing Assam in 1972, and since then, the issue of border dispute has been going on between the two neighbouring states. The two states have challenged the Assam Reorganization Act 1971, resulting in a conflict between them in 12 areas along the 884.9 km inter-state border.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, after assuming office in May 2021, had announced that his priority was to resolve the old border dispute between the neighbouring states.
