Big Relief for Senior Citizens in Bihar, Land Registration Will Now Happen at Home

Bihar Land Registry: A major change is underway regarding land registration in Bihar. Senior citizens aged 80 years and above will no longer have to visit the registration office. The Sub-Registrar cum Special Officer will personally visit their homes to verify their land. This will provide significant relief to the elderly.

How will the new system work?

To do so, senior citizens will need to apply online via the e-registration portal. A fixed fee of ₹400 will be required. Upon reaching age 80, a new option will appear. It will ask whether the registration should be completed at home or at the office. Select the desired option.

The date and time will then be decided. At the appointed time, a team from the registration office will arrive at the home with a mobile registration unit. Biometric verification and the online process will be completed there.

Preparations for implementation from April

Necessary changes are being made to the e-registration portal software. The update is expected to be completed in February. Following this, a trial will begin. The government plans to implement this system from April 1st. Laptops and biometric Aadhaar verification machines have been provided to all registration offices.

A Step Towards Digital Ease of Living

The government is considering this a major initiative towards digital ease of living. This scheme is being implemented under the “Sabka Samman – Jeevan Aasan” (Respect for All – Aasan for Life). It aims to simplify the daily lives of older people. Upon completion of the registration, a link will be sent to the buyer’s and seller’s mobile phones. Documents can be downloaded online.

What was the previous process?

Previously, sick or disabled older people had to provide a medical certificate. Then, officials manually took thumbprints and photographs. The process was lengthy and complex, and the risk was high.

What will be the benefits?

This new system will benefit thousands of older people. It will prevent fraud in land purchases and sales. The process will become transparent and easy. Now, older people can register their property with dignity from the comfort of their homes.
