CBSE board exams for Class 10 and 12 are scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026. Class 10 exams will be held until March 11, and Class 12 exams until April 10, 2026. Along with preparing for the exams, students must understand what items are permitted and prohibited in the examination hall. Every year, many students face difficulties due to a lack of proper knowledge of the rules. Therefore, it’s crucial to understand the important instructions before the exam.
Why is it important to know the rules before the exam?
As board exams approach, students begin revising. They prepare formulas, diagrams, and key questions, but often, upon arrival at the exam centre, they are unsure which items are permitted. Ignoring these rules can lead to issues during the exam. Therefore, it’s important to read the instructions on the admit card carefully.
Calculators are completely prohibited.
Students are prohibited from carrying any calculator during the Class 10th and 12th board exams. This rule applies to all subjects, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and accountancy. Scientific calculators are also not permitted.
Who can be exempted?
Exemptions may be granted in certain circumstances, such as for students with disabilities, with prior approval. Special instructions from the board may also apply to certain vocational subjects and require prior permission from the school.
Stationery Allowed
Students may carry a transparent scale, compass, divider, protractor, pencil, eraser, and sharpener. Only carry essential and basic equipment. Avoid carrying extra or unnecessary materials.
Maps and graph paper will be available at the centre.
For the Geography exam, an outline map will be provided with the question paper. Students are not required to bring maps from home. Similarly, graph paper will be provided at the exam centre for subjects such as Math, Economics, and Physics.
Writing and Presentation Rules
Draw diagrams and graphs with a pencil. Use a blue or royal blue pen for writing answers. Neat handwriting and proper presentation lead to good marks.
Small Precautions, Big Relief
Board exams are not just a test of knowledge, but also of discipline. Following the rules and carrying the right materials can help avoid unnecessary stress. Take the exam with confidence and perform well.
