Ahmednagar Of Maharashtra Will Be Renamed, CM Shinde Told What It Will Be Called Now

Name Change News: On Wednesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced renaming Ahmednagar district. CM Eknath Shinde said that Ahmednagar of Maharashtra will now be Ahilya Nagar. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis participated in the celebrations organized on the 298th birth anniversary of Ahilyadevi at Chondi in Ahmednagar district today.

Amid a long-standing demand to change the name, when the Deputy CM proposed it in front of Eknath Shinde while giving a speech, he immediately agreed to fulfil it. It may be known that after the coming of the Shinde-Fadnavis government, the name of Aurangabad was changed to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv. However, the decision to change the names of these two cities has been challenged in the High Court.

What Is The History Of Ahmednagar

Ahmednagar was the capital of the Nizamshahi Sultans, who established a new branch of the Bahmani Sultanate in the Deccan in 1490 AD. Ahmednagar was founded by the first Sultan of this dynasty, Ahmed Nizamshah. Dozens of Nizam Shahi carpet buildings and sites are available in Ahmednagar.
