Karnataka Temples to Go Phone-Free; Government Bans Mobile Phones

The Karnataka government announced a major decision on Monday (July 17). The Muzrai government department has said in its directive that mobile phones should be banned inside the temple premises. These government orders were taken from the point of view of peace and security of the temples during worship at religious places.

The Karnataka government has banned the use of mobile phones in all temples under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. An order to this effect was issued today. The government order said that using mobile phones in temples causes problems for other devotees and staff. In such a situation, the entry of mobile phones inside the premises should be stopped.

The government has said that using mobile phones in temples causes problems for other devotees and staff. The order states that all devotees must switch off their mobile phones inside the temples. The ban on the use of mobile phones in temples is also in place in Tamil Nadu temples.

Similar rules apply in Tamil Nadu as well. Please say that the Madras High Court has instructed to ban mobile phones in the temples of Tamil Nadu. The High Court issued this order in December 2022. During the petition hearing, the High Court had asked the State Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to ban mobile phones in temples.

On the other hand, the Karnataka government has not taken this decision suddenly. The issue was also discussed earlier in the state, but the government has formally banned it. Devotees and staff will not be allowed to carry phones inside the temples. Photography and videography are completely banned on the premises of Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath and many other major temples.
