Navi Mumbai Airport Set to Open, Mumbai Gets Its Second International Hub

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 8th. Operations will begin in December of this year. This airport is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Seeing its amenities, you’d say it’s the epitome of luxury.

Navi Mumbai Airport will be Mumbai’s second international airport, after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The airport recently received its airport license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on September 30th, paving the way for operations.

Gautam Adani recently inspected the Navi Mumbai Airport and posted a video of it on his Twitter account (formerly Twitter). This international airport is designed to handle 90 million passengers annually upon opening, making it one of the largest airports in the world.

How much investment has been made in its construction?

Navi Mumbai International Airport Private has been designed with state-of-the-art facilities for both domestic and international passengers, with an investment of $2.1 billion.

Navi Mumbai International Airport’s Capacity

Navi Mumbai Airport is twice the size of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, spanning 1,160 hectares and being developed in several phases.

The first phase of the project will be able to handle approximately 20 million passengers and 800,000 tons of cargo annually. Upon completion, the airport will be able to serve 90 million passengers and hold over 3.2 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo annually.

What special features will be available?

Automated People Mover System: The airport will feature an Automated People Mover System (APM) that connects all terminals via underground tunnels. This facility will allow passengers to check in at any terminal and have their luggage automatically routed to the correct terminal.

Water Taxis: Water taxis will operate from the nearby Telegraph Office. The construction of the Atal Setu Bridge will further enhance road access.

Connectivity: Navi Mumbai Airport will be connected to multiple modes of transportation, including road, rail, and waterways.

Gold Line Metro: Officials are also planning to launch a new “Gold Line” metro line to directly connect Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport.

AI-Powered Surveillance: The airport will feature advanced surveillance technology, including an AI-powered surveillance system and biometric screening, for secure and efficient check-in.
