A major competition has begun in the country in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). It’s no longer limited to tech companies, but the country’s largest industrial houses are also ready to invest billions and trillions of rupees.
On one hand, Mukesh Ambani is betting ₹10 lakh crore on AI, while on the other, Gautam Adani is preparing to invest approximately ₹9 lakh crore. Clearly, the AI sector in India is set to see a massive influx of funds in the coming years.
At the ongoing AI Impact Summit in Delhi, Mukesh Ambani announced that, through Reliance Industries and Jio, he will invest approximately ₹10 lakh crore in AI over the next seven years. He says this is not a risky experiment, but a solid strategy for the future. India has the world’s largest digital user base. Nearly one billion internet users, affordable data rates, and fast networks provide a strong foundation for AI.
Ambani believes that India’s young population, democratic system, and rapidly expanding digital infrastructure can together make it a major global AI power. He emphasises that the benefits of AI should reach rural areas, not just large cities.
Focus on Data Centres and Renewable Energy
On the other hand, the Adani Group is working on a plan to build large-scale, AI-ready data centres by 2035. This investment will primarily focus on a data centre network powered by renewable energy. The group aims to expand its existing 2 GW network to 5 GW. To achieve this, Adani Connex projects will be expanded, and large data campuses will be developed in various cities across the country.
Partnerships with global companies are also being forged in this direction. Work is underway with Google to develop the country’s largest AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam. There are plans to collaborate with Microsoft on projects in Hyderabad and Pune. Gautam Adani believes that a new industrial revolution is emerging in the form of AI. Countries that can combine energy and computing will shape the future. India stands in a strong position in this race.
What does it mean for the commoner?
This massive investment isn’t just for corporate profits. It could create millions of jobs, boost startups, and make digital services in the country more affordable and efficient. In the coming years, AI could completely transform our work, education, agriculture, health, and business. Overall, this competition between Adani and Ambani could give India a new identity on the AI map.
