A major step has been taken towards promoting aircraft manufacturing in India. Gautam Adani Group company Adani Defence and Aerospace, along with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, plans to set up a final assembly line (FAL) for the E175 regional jet in India. Officials from both companies exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal were also present. Both companies believe that assembly of these aircraft in India will significantly benefit the aviation sector. It will boost the local industry, strengthen the supply chain, and create new employment opportunities for youth.
About the Aircraft
The E175 is a regional jet seating up to 88 passengers. This aircraft is primarily used to increase air travel between small and medium-sized cities. There are many cities in India where larger aircraft are not regularly served. In such a scenario, this aircraft can help launch new routes and enhance air connectivity.
What’s the statement saying?
According to an official statement, this initiative, building on the initial MoU signed in January, is part of a broader framework to develop an integrated regional transport aircraft (RTA) ecosystem in India. The E175 aircraft can seat up to 88 passengers and can be deployed to enhance regional air connectivity between tier II and III cities.
What did the company official say?
Adani Defence and Aerospace Chairman and CEO Ashish Rajvanshi said the company is working towards strengthening India’s regional aviation ecosystem. He said this initiative will help India become self-reliant in the aviation sector, bridge the gap between cities and villages, and create new skilled jobs. Embraer Chairman and CEO Francisco Gomes Neto said the E175 aircraft is successfully used in many countries worldwide and is considered reliable for short-haul flights. He said that India is a fast-growing market in this sector, with huge potential.
