Anil Ambani’s Airport Woes Continue; Maharashtra To Take Back 5 Airports

Anil Ambani’s difficulties are not taking the name of reducing. Now it is being considered to take back the airport from lease. The state’s Deputy Chief Minister said in the assembly that the Maharashtra government will take back five airports from Anil Ambani’s Reliance Airport Developers Private Limited (RADPL) company.

The Maharashtra government had leased these five airports to RADPL, a subsidiary of Anil Ambani’s Reliance Infrastructure, 2009 for 30 years. Now it has been decided to take them back. These five airports include Baramati, Nanded, Latur, Yavatmal and Osmanabad. Currently, they are not active.

Company Not Maintaining Airport

According to a Hindustan Times report, during the Maharashtra Assembly session, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that RADPL is not maintaining the airports. Apart from this, the dues are also not being paid. In such a situation, Nanded Airport has been closed. He said we would discuss the legal issue of occupying the airports with the Advocate General. He said the state government would also pay all the dues for the five airports and recover the amount from the firm.

Only 11 Out Of 32 Airports Operated

Reacting to Fadnavis’ announcement, senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan said there are around 32 airports and airstrips in the state, of which only 11 are active airports. The Congress leader said that the Nanded airport has been closed for a long time. The Mumbai airport also does not provide enough slots for flights to major cities, making it difficult to travel within the state.

Announcement To Make Nodal Agency

Fadnavis assured that he would try to get more slots at the Mumbai airport. He will soon hold a high-level meeting with officials of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) and ask them to give more slots for major cities of the state. Apart from this, Fadvis has also announced to form a nodal agency. This nodal agency will look after the development of the airport.

Navi Mumbai Airport Will Be Operational Next Year

Deputy CM said that the government has also decided to make one helipad each in all tehsils, and for this, they have selected a committee to check the technical condition of the places. Fadvis claimed that the Navi Mumbai airport would be made operational next year.

At the same time, the work of Nanded, Latur airport has stopped because the company to which the work has been given has not paid the dues. He said this work would be expedited after getting his opinion on this.
