The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has banned one of its saints. On Tuesday, ISKCON banned one of its saints, Amogh Lila Das, for inappropriate comments about Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
Amogh Das Is Very Popular On Social Media
Amogh Lila Das is a spiritual speaker whose videos are quite viral on social media. During one of his discourses, Amogh Lila Das questioned Swami Vivekananda’s fish consumption, saying that a virtuous person would never consume anything that would harm an animal.
Amogh Lila Das, while addressing the people, said that will a virtuous person ever eat fish? Fish feel pain too, don’t they? Then would a pious person eat fish? Amogh Lila Das also took a dig at Swami Vivekananda’s guru Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
His comments sparked a controversy on social media, forcing ISKCON to take action against their seer. In its statement, ISKCON said that it is saddened by the inappropriate and unacceptable comments of Amogh Lila Das and his lack of understanding about the great teachings of these two personalities. ISKCON said that Amogh Lila Das had been banned from ISKCON for one month.
Amogh Das Apologized
Whereas ISKCON has further said in the statement that Amogh Lila Das has apologized for his remarks and has resolved to go to the hills of Govardhan for a month of atonement. It has been said in the statement that he will completely separate himself from public life with immediate effect.
