On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the second phase of the coastal road between Worli and Marine Drive will be opened by June 10. Shinde also inspected a leak in the southbound tunnel at the Marine Drive end, which is a part of the first phase of the coastal road inaugurated in March.
What Did He Say About The Leakage?
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, the chief minister said two to three expansion joints of the coastal road had leaks, and they will be plugged using polymer grouting. Shinde also suggested polymer grouting on all 25 joints on each tunnel side to avoid water seepage even during monsoon. He said the repair work will not affect vehicular movement on the coastal road, and motorists will not face inconvenience.
Phase-2 To Begin On June 10
The chief minister said the second phase of the coastal road from Marine Drive to Worli will be opened for traffic by June 10. Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said if the MVA were in power, the coastal road would have been completed and opened to citizens by December 2023.
Thackeray Takes A Jibe
“However, after our government was toppled by the corrupt regime, they slowed down the work and worked on increasing the cost,” Thackeray said in a post on ‘X.’ He further claimed that the first phase was inaugurated in a hurry to take credit for the project before the elections and said the MVA would investigate the delay when it forms the government. Work on the ambitious coastal road project began on October 13, 2018, and is estimated to cost Rs 12,721 crore.
