ULFA Laid Down Arms After 40 Years, Peace Agreement In Presence Of Home Minister Amit Shah

The peace agreement was signed between the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), Assam government and the Center in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah. Giving credit to ULFA representatives for this, the Home Minister said this has been possible only because of their efforts. He said that all the aspects of this agreement will be completed in a time-bound manner.

Let us tell you that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present on this occasion. For the last 12 years, the central government has been in talks with the group led by Arabinda Rajkhowa. Let us tell you that a faction of the militant organization ULFA is still not a part of this peace agreement. Its head is Paresh Baruah.

20 leaders of this faction of ULFA were in Delhi for the last one week. Anup Chetia faction is a faction of ULFA. This is what has been included in this agreement. However, this is a big success for the Indian government and a step towards ending extremism. This organization has not taken up arms since 2011. However, this peace agreement strengthens this commitment.

According to experts, it has been said in this agreement that the cultural heritage of the people of Assam will be protected. Apart from this, employment will be provided to the people of Assam. People who were involved in ULFA will also be given work. The government will cooperate to bring ULFA members who have left the armed movement into the mainstream.

ULFA Was Formed In 1979

ULFA is a militant organization active in Assam. It was formed on 7 April 1979 by Paresh Barua and partners Arabinda Rajkhowa and Anup Chetia. Its objective was to make Assam an autonomous and sovereign state. This organization took up arms. The central government had banned it in 1990. In 1991, about 9 thousand people of this organization surrendered. Rajkhowa was also arrested in 2008. When Rajkhowa moved towards a peace agreement, this organization was divided into two factions.
