Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rains, Red Alert Issued for Parts of Maharashtra

The southwest monsoon has reached Mumbai two days ahead of schedule. Mumbai is expected to witness thunderstorms, very heavy rains, and lightning. Neighbouring areas like Raigad and Ratnagiri are likely to receive heavy rainfall. A red alert has been issued for Sindhudurg and its neighbouring district, Kolhapur. Most districts of Maharashtra, especially the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions, will likely receive heavy rainfall.

Heavy Rain Warning In Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana And Andhra Pradesh

The Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in the Krishna catchment areas of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh during the next 72 to 84 hours. Many regions of Bengaluru received light but heavy rainfall on Sunday. Some coastal Karnataka, Western Ghats and northern interior Karnataka also received rainfall. Coastal Karnataka has also been warned of high sea waves for 48 hours. Heavy rains and thundershowers are expected in Uttara Kannada district on June 10.

At the same time, thunderstorms with strong winds (40-50 kmph) are likely in Belagavi, Gadag, Dharwad, Koppal, Bagalkot, Haveri, Vijayapura and Raichur districts.

Delhi’s Maximum Temperature Recorded At 42.5 Degree Celsius

The maximum temperature in the national capital, Delhi, was 42.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 2.5 degrees above the season’s average. The department has predicted clear skies and strong winds.

‘Orange Alert’ Issued In Two Districts Of Kerala

Amid heavy rains due to southwest monsoons in many parts of Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for two state districts on Sunday. The IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ in the northern districts of Kannur and Kasaragod and a ‘Yellow Alert’ in the other 10 districts. ‘Yellow Alert’ means heavy rainfall between six to 11 centimetres. Moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected at one or two places in Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur districts. Light rain is expected in some parts of Kerala.

Temperature Drops Due To Rain In Rajasthan

Light to moderate rain was recorded in some parts of Rajasthan during the last 24 hours, while people got relief from the heat due to a drop of one to two degrees Celsius in the maximum and minimum temperatures at most places. Due to the activation of Western Disturbance in the state, the temperature of many cities, including Ganganagar, Bikaner, Phalodi, Kota, Sikar, Jaisalmer, and Churu, was recorded below normal due to rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms.

According to the Jaipur Meteorological Center, rain with thunderstorms is expected in Kota, Udaipur, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Banswara, and Jhalawar in the south-eastern parts of the state in the coming days. The temperature is also expected to increase by one to two degrees Celsius in most of the state’s cities.
