What Is Special In Delhi Mumbai Expressway?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 246-km Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Sunday. With the opening of this section of the expressway, the travel time from the national capital to Jaipur is expected to reduce from 5 hours to about three and a half hours. During the event, Modi will also lay the foundation stone for 247 km long national highway projects to be developed at over Rs 5,940 crore.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that this first section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, developed at over Rs 12,150 crore, will boost the economic development of the entire region. Modi will launch road development projects worth over Rs 18,100 crore from Dausa.

The PMO said that Modi’s emphasis on building excellent road infrastructure as an engine of growth and connectivity in New India could be felt in constructing several world-class expressways across the country.

What Is Special About The Expressway

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, with a length of 1,386 km, will be the longest in India. It will reduce the travel distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 12 per cent, from 1,424 km to 1,242 km. This will reduce the travel time between the two metros by 50 per cent. It currently takes 24 hours to travel from Delhi to Mumbai, but after the commissioning of this expressway, it will take around 12 hours to complete.

This expressway will pass through 6 states Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra and connect major cities like Kota, Indore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Vadodara and Surat.

The PMO said it would catalyse the growth trajectory of all adjacent regions and thus significantly contribute to the country’s economic transformation.
