Leg-spinner Amit Mishra made a comeback in the IPL with a bang after almost two years and did wonders with his game. This player, playing for Lucknow Super Giants, bowled four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad and took two wickets for 23 runs.
He also left his mark in fielding and took a tremendous catch of Rahul Tripathi by diving. Seeing Amit Mishra’s performance, it was not felt that he is 40 years old and has not played IPL since 2021. He has returned to the tournament after 675 days.
He celebrated this comeback in a big way and took the wickets of Washington Sundar and Adil Rashid. Captain KL Rahul used him as the seventh bowler. Mishra bowled 10 balls in his quota of overs and gave only three boundaries. He was later replaced as an impact player.
But by then, Mishra had done his work. He has become the eighth bowler who took a wicket in the IPL at 40. Before him, players like Praveen Tambe, Imran Tahir, Shane Warne, Muralitharan, and Sanath Jayasuriya have taken wickets at 40.
Mishra Was Unsold In the 2022 Mega Auction
Mishra was unsold in the mega auction of IPL 2022. His base price was Rs 1.5 crore, but no team had placed bets on him. Earlier, he played in this tournament for the last time in 2021. Then he was a part of the Delhi Capitals team, but he got to play only four matches.
In these, six wickets were in his name. Even during IPL 2020, he was fielded in only three games. He got three wickets in these. In the IPL 2023 auction, Amit Mishra was taken by Lucknow in the last round. He was picked at a base price of Rs 50 lakh. The decision to pick him was shocking as Mishra played very little in domestic cricket.
Mishra is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in IPL. He has 168 wickets in 155 matches. The names of Lasith Malinga (170), Yuzvendra Chahal (171) and Dwayne Bravo (183) come ahead of them. Mishra is the only bowler to have three IPL hat-tricks.
