Jay Shah was announced to become the Chairman of the International Cricket Council last Tuesday (July 27). Jay Shah, who has been handling the responsibility of BCCI Secretary until now, will take over as ICC Chairman from December 1. Jay Shah was elected unopposed. He is not the first but the fifth Indian to become the Chairman of the ICC. So let us know which Indian has held this post before this.
Jagmohan Dalmiya
Jagmohan Dalmiya was the first Indian to become the Chairman of the ICC. He held the post from 1997 to 2000. However, Jagmohan Dalmiya is no longer in this world. He died on September 21, 2015.
Sharad Pawar
Sharad Pawar became the second Indian to become the Chairman of the ICC. A big face of Indian politics, he served in this post from 2010 to 2012. Before assuming office at the ICC, he was also the President of BCCI, serving from 2005 to 2008.
N Srinivasan
Famous businessman and Chennai Super Kings co-owner N Srinivasan also served as ICC Chairman from 2014 to 2015. The name of this post was changed to ‘Chairman’ only after N Srinivasan became President.
Shashank Manohar
Former BCCI President Shashank Manohar also served as Chairman of the ICC, serving from 2015 to 2020.
Jay Shah Will Take Charge From December 1, 2024
Let us tell you that the newly appointed Jay Shah will take over as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council from December 1. The term of the current ICC Chairman, Greg Barclay of New Zealand, will end on November 30. Greg Barclay has been serving as the Chairman of the ICC since 2020. He refused to take up the post for the third time, after which Jay Shah was elected unopposed.
