Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana is in the limelight for his hot temper apart from his cool batting. On Sunday, Nitish Rana was seen fuming at the umpires during Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings. The incident happened just before the last over of CSK’s innings.
Shardul Thakur was doing the 19th over. The 5th ball of the over was called wide by the umpires. Shardul Thakur took DRS on this. The umpires also referred it to the third umpire. However, Nitish Rana did not indicate here; it is his right as the captain. Nitish did not like this thing. On this, he was seen getting confused with the umpires.
On the other hand, the limit of completing 20 overs was exceeded, and due to the slow over rate, he was forced to keep 4 fielders out of the circle in the last over instead of 5. On this, his temperature became even higher. Vaibhav Arora was about to bowl the last over with Shivam Dubey and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.
The conversation between Rana and the umpires could be seen on TV. The commentators translated it in his own words; he must be trying to say that I am the captain and how you decided on your own without my prompting.
Time passed during this heated conversation. Well, Arora bowled the last over, which yielded only 9 runs. The pacer also bowled a no-ball in this over. He also got MS Dhoni clean bowled on a free-hit delivery. On the other hand, half-centuries from Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana helped KKR beat CSK by 6 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing the target of 145 runs, KKR had scored 33 runs for 3 wickets at one stage, in which Deepak Chahar took all the wickets. This is when Rinku (54 off 43) and Rana (57 not out off 44) put on 99 runs for the fourth wicket to get KKR out of hot water. Finally, the team reached home in 18.3 overs. Earlier, Shivam Dube scored an unbeaten 48 off 34 balls, helping CSK post 144 for 6 in 20 overs. Varun Chakraborty (2 for 36) and Sunil Narine (2 for 15) took two wickets each.
