Apple has long been trying to bring Siri into the age of AI, but now the company is finally taking a big step. According to reports, Apple will introduce a new Gemini-powered Siri in February, which will be far more intelligent than the current voice assistant. This update is considered the first major result of the AI partnership between Apple and Google. Following this, a full AI chatbot version of Siri might also be unveiled during WWDC 2026 in June.
Apple’s Long Preparation to Make Siri Smarter
Apple first launched Siri in 2010, and the voice assistant was quite popular at one time. However, in the rapidly evolving world of generative AI, Siri fell behind tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. At WWDC 2024, Apple itself acknowledged the need to make Siri next-generation. However, this process was delayed due to difficulties with Apple’s in-house AI models. Now, according to Bloomberg, Apple is very close to overcoming this hurdle.
AI Power from Google Gemini
To give Siri a new lease on life, Apple has chosen Google’s Gemini AI. According to reports, Apple also held discussions with OpenAI and Anthropic, but the deals fell through due to cost and strategic reasons. The rapid improvement of Gemini models and favourable terms led Apple to partner with Google. Initially, the Gemini-based features will run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, ensuring that the company maintains control over privacy.
Gemini-Powered Siri Coming in February
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could announce the new Siri in the third or fourth week of February. This update will arrive in beta with iOS 26.4 and could be released to all users by March or April. This system, called Apple Foundation Models version 10, will have approximately 1.2 trillion parameters. Apple will present it as part of its AI vision, but Gemini’s role will be crucial. The real AI chatbot Siri will arrive in June.
The February update will make Siri smarter, but it won’t be a full-fledged chatbot. The real major change will be seen at WWDC 2026, when a chatbot-style Siri is expected to launch with iOS 27. This new Siri will be capable of longer, more natural conversations, just like ChatGPT or Gemini. Based on Apple’s Foundation Model version 11, this system will be faster and more accurate, and some features may even run directly on Google Cloud.
