DoT remains very vigilant for the safety of telecom users, for which many stringent restrictions are imposed on telecom operators. In this connection, the Department of Telecommunications has imposed a fine of about Rs 4 lakh on Bharti Airtel for violating subscriber verification norms in Delhi and Bihar circles.

A fine of Rs 2.55 lakh has been imposed on the Company for Delhi Circle. Whereas in Bihar Circle, it will have to pay a fine of Rs 1.46. Let us know about it in detail.

Airtel Fined Rs 4 Lakh

According to a regulatory filing by Bharti Airtel, the Department of Telecommunications, Delhi Circle, has issued a notice imposing a penalty of Rs 2.55 lakh for alleged violation of subscriber verification norms.

The department’s Bihar circle has served a notice to the Company, imposing a penalty of Rs 1.46 lakh for violating subscriber verification norms, Bharti Airtel said in a separate filing.

When Was The Notice Issued

Delhi Circle has issued a notice for alleged violation of terms and conditions concerning customer verification norms under the license agreement, per the sample CAF audit conducted by DoT for January 2023.

For Bihar Circle, the notice has been issued as per the sample CAF audit conducted by DoT for January 2024, the filing said. However, the Company has protested against the penalty imposed by DoT in Bihar Circle.

The notice issued by DoT Bihar Circle said that the maximum financial impact is to the extent of the fine imposed. The Company disagrees with the notice and will take appropriate action to rectify/reverse it.
