Will Disable Third Party Cookies
If you have specific workflows that rely on Drive download URLs or use an app that relies on Drive download URLs, you must switch to the Drive and Docs publishing flow by January 2. This change comes as Google is preparing to turn off third-party cookies by default in its Chrome browser, following similar actions by Mozilla and Apple to increase privacy.
Google said, ‘Without the need for third-party cookies, the download service will work to improve usability, security and privacy for Drive users.’ The company said, ‘For workspace files (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Form file types), use the Google publishing URL of the file.’ This change affects all Google Workspace Customers and users with personal Google Accounts.
This Announcement Was Made In June
In June, the company announced the end of support for ‘Drive for Desktop’ on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and all 32-bit versions of Windows. The company further said that users of 32-bit versions of Windows can still access Google Drive through the browser.
Search Chips Introduced
Meanwhile, the company introduced a ‘Search Chips’ feature for Drive, which allows users to filter based on criteria like file type, owner and last modified date anywhere in the web app.
