Bad news for viewers: TV may soon become expensive. Disney Star, Viacom18, Zee Entertainment, and Sony Picture Network India broadcasters may add to their channel list. It is believed that watching TV may become expensive after the results of the Lok Sabha elections.
How Much Will The Increase Be?
If the report is true, the TV subscription rate may increase by 5 to 8 percent. That means if your monthly TV subscription is Rs 500, the rate may increase by about Rs 40. Similarly, if the monthly TV subscription rate is Rs 1000, it will increase by about Rs 80.
TRAI Gave This Suggestion
If ET’s report is to be believed, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had asked the broadcasters not to shut down the signals of distributor platform operators (DPOs) who have not signed the agreement according to the new tariff until the general elections are over.
10 Percent Increase In Bouquet Rates
Let us tell you that in January, the leading broadcaster increased its base bouquet rates by about 10 per cent. According to the report, it is being claimed that Viacom18 will see the highest increase of about 25 per cent. This means the monthly subscription of about Rs 500 will increase by about Rs 125.
Prices May Increase Soon
If the report is believed, the highest growth of about 25 per cent can be recorded in the market share of cricket and entertainment channels. The new price was to be implemented in February. In such a situation, broadcasters are expected to pressure DPOs to increase the rates after the voting ends in June. Some DPOs, like Airtel Digital TV, have increased their prices marginally.
