The Tata Group has inked a deal to build a lithium-ion cell plant with an investment of around Rs 13,000 crore ($1.6 billion). This deal has been done with the Gujarat government. According to sources familiar with the development, the decision to set up an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant at Sanand in Gujarat was taken during a board meeting of Tata Sons earlier this week.
Let us tell you that Tata Motors already has a plant in Sanand and has also acquired the plant of Ford Motors. Integrating both plants has started and may take up to a year to complete.

Work on the plant is expected to begin in less than three years, said a joint statement on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tata unit Agratas Energy Storage Solutions and the Gujarat government. It will have an initial manufacturing capacity of 20 gigawatt hours (GWh), which could be doubled in the second expansion phase. Work on the plant is expected to begin in less than three years.
In April, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a subsidiary of Tata Motors, announced its electrification plan. JLR said it would invest £15 billion (about $19 billion) over the next five years to position itself as an electric-first and modern carmaker.
