An Imphal-based organization has banned famous Manipuri film star Soma Laishram from working in films and participating in social events for three years. It is being said that this organization had appealed to many celebrities not to participate in entertainment programs as long as Manipur is burning with the fire of violence. But Soma Laishram did not listen to him, so she was banned.
Why Was Actor Laishram Banned?
Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) group said film star Soma Laishram had participated in a beauty pageant in New Delhi on September 16, against the general call for actors to avoid such events given the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. Let us tell you that many people have lost their lives in the ethnic conflict going on in Manipur. More than 170 people have died since May 3.

FFM Criticized The Ban Imposed On Laishram
Meanwhile, Film Forum Manipur (FFM), an organization of all film bodies in the state, strongly criticized KKL’s decision imposed on Laishram and said that it would try to get the ban revoked.
What Did Laishram Say When The Ban Was Imposed?
Let us tell you that Laishram has proved his intense acting skills in more than 150 Manipuri films and has won many awards. On the ban imposed by KKL, Laishram said that she participated in the North East Students Festival at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi because it celebrated the cultural heritage of the Northeast. “As a professional actor and a social influencer, I am responsible for communicating and speaking about the crisis in Manipur. I chose this platform,” she told Manipur-based agency Waari Singbul.
Amidst all this, KKL said it had contacted FFM and Film Actors Guild Manipur to request Laishram not to participate in the event in New Delhi. “But they rejected all requests, showing complete disrespect to the Meitei people who have died so far (in the ethnic conflict),” the organization said in a statement.
