Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that the 29 km long Dwarka Expressway would likely be completed in three-four months and will be opened for traffic before December. During the project inspection, Nitin Gadkari said its cost was Rs 10,000 crore. In this, 75 to 90 percent work has been completed. He was accompanied by Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena, Union ministers of state General VK Singh and Rao Inderjit Singh, and MPs Parvesh Singh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri.
He also said the expressway is part of a Rs 65,000 crore plan covering Delhi and neighbouring areas.
Gadkari said that the entire project is divided into four packages. The first is about 60% complete from Shiv Murti near Mahipalpur to Dwarka. The second package from Dwarka Urban Extension Road (UER) to Bajghera is about 82% complete, while the third package from Bajghera to Basai Rail Overbridge (Delhi-Haryana border) is about 93% complete. About 99 per cent of the fourth package from Basai ROB to Kherki Daula has been completed.
Gadkari said that 99% of the highways falling towards Haryana, i.e. Package 3 and 4, have been completed. Its 18.9 km stretch is in Haryana, while 10.1 km is in Delhi. The minister said this is the country’s first elevated urban expressway and the first single-pillar flyover of eight lanes. It is being constructed over a tunnel, underpass, grade road, elevated road and flyover.
About 60 hectares of land were acquired for Rs 500 crore for the project, while another Rs 500 crore was spent on the water, sewage network and removal of 720 KV high-tension wire. About 12,000 trees that were cut down for the project were also replanted.
