Team India suffered a major setback before the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. According to the news agency PTI, experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of this ODI series due to injury. Shami had this injury on his hand. However, the BCCI has not given any official statement regarding this till now.
India has to play three ODIs and two Test matches on the Bangladesh tour. The ODI series is starting on December 4, i.e. Sunday itself. Mohammed Shami was part of both the ODI and Test teams and was set to lead the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. But due to injury, he did not fly to Bangladesh with the rest of the Indian team on December 1.
Shami Will Report to NCA
A source in the BCCI, aware of the whole matter, said Mohammad Shami had suffered an injury in his hand, which started after resuming training after the T20 World Cup in Australia. He has been asked to report to the NCA and did not travel with the team on December 1.
After the T20 World Cup 2022, senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, including Shami, were given a break for the New Zealand tour. Four fast bowlers – Mohammad Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and youngster Kuldeep Sen are already in the Indian squad. In such a situation, there is little possibility that BCCI will announce Shami’s replacement.
Can Also Be Out Of the Test Series
However, if Shami’s injury becomes severe, he will not be able to participate in the two-match Test series starting on December 14. The source said, “Shami’s absence from the three ODIs is certainly a factor, but the bigger concern is the Test series where he has to lead the attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.” The Indian team is currently in Mirpur, where the Indian players practised a lot on Friday.
Indian squad for the ODI series: Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Shahbaz Ahmed, Akshar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Sen.
