There are numerous competitions held in various countries around the world, awarding prizes to the winner. But have you ever heard of a sleep-related competition? That is, a competition in which one can win millions of rupees simply by getting a good night’s sleep. It may sound a bit strange, but a similar competition is actually being held in Japan.
In this competition, the person who gets 90 minutes of good sleep can win a prize of 1.37 million rupees. Participants in this competition will have to prove the quality of their sleep by getting 90 minutes of good sleep. The winner of this unique competition will be awarded approximately 1.37 million rupees.
A Unique Competition to be Held on October 5th
According to media reports, this competition will be held in Tokyo, Japan’s capital, on October 5th, 2026. It will be held at Share Green Minami Aoyama. A Japanese mattress company is organising this competition. The winner will receive a prize of 2.22 million Japanese yen, or approximately 1.376 million rupees. During the competition, each participant will have 90 minutes.
During this time, their sleep will be tracked using special equipment. This will determine how quickly they fall asleep, how deep their sleep is, and how stable their sleep remains throughout the entire period. This means that simply falling asleep quickly won’t be enough; the quality of their sleep will also be crucial.
Sleeping directly into bed will not be permitted.
Participants will not be allowed to go to bed immediately. They will be required to complete certain exercises before going to sleep. After this, participants will be randomly assigned a sleep item. The competition aims to test natural sleep, so participants cannot stay up all night in the name of preparation. The use of sleep aids or any form of meditation will not be permitted. The organisers want to see how well participants can sleep normally. Furthermore, unexpected disturbances during sleep may be used to assess participants’ sleep stability.
Prizes will be awarded in addition to the winner.
In addition to the main winner, prizes will also be awarded for specific sleep-related achievements. These include the Deep Sleep Dive Award and awards for different sleeping positions. There is no application fee. The competition will have three sessions, with approximately 20 participants expected in each session. Organisers say that this competition will be a success.
