This decision of the Biden administration will facilitate thousands of skilled Indian workers to enter or stay in America.
This information has been given by sources close to the administration. PM Modi reached Washington on June 21, receiving him with a guard of honour. On June 22, PM Modi will hold discussions with President Biden.
73 Percent Of Indians Benefited
Indians are the most users of the H1B visa program. In 2022, 73 per cent of Indians benefited under this program. At the same time, 442,000 workers had applied for it. It will be announced soon by the Foreign Department. It is believed that an official announcement in this regard can be made on Thursday itself.
After this announcement, some Indian and other foreign workers can renew their visas in America without going abroad. In the coming times, it can be extended under a pilot program. Another US official said We all recognize that the mobility of our people is a great asset to us. So we aim to adopt it in a multifaceted manner. According to this official, the State Department is already working hard to find creative ways to turn things around.
A State Department spokeswoman declined to comment on questions about what types of visas would be eligible for the program or when the pilot program would be launched. The information about this program was given in Bloomberg’s report in February. The spokesman said that a small number of pilot projects would be launched to expand the program within the next one to two years. He refused to call this program small. He said that some methods of the program can be changed.
Visa Is For Three Years
Sources say that no comment will be made on it until the announcement is made and they are not finalized. The US government makes 65,000 H-1B visas available annually to companies looking for skilled foreign workers. Apart from this, an additional 20,000 visas would be provided for professionals with advanced degrees. The visa lasts for three years. It can be renewed for the next three years.
