North Korean Officials Selling Newspapers Sent To Jail; People Using Pages For This Purpose

People also know North Korea for the crazy decisions of dictator Kim Jong Un. Once again, the case of the strange action of the Korean dictator has come to the fore. In this country, people who sell official newspapers are being sent to jail.

This case is related to the Rodong Sinmun newspaper. It is the mouthpiece of the government of North Korea. This newspaper is believed to be very respected, and whoever has bought, it must read it thoroughly.

The reason behind this is that the pictures of dictator Kim Jong Un and his party’s views are written on the pages of Rodong Sinmun. This is why newspaper buyers keep their copies for years as a mark of respect to the dictator.

It is said about this newspaper that if a leader does not give much importance to its copies or is found insulting it, then it can also be punished. But recently, the pages of this newspaper were being used for different things.

The Mirror reported that it was also used as wallpaper and to wrap foods such as bread, rice cakes and sweets, quoting human rights activists. According to the newspaper, there has been a huge shortage of cigarette rolling paper in North Korea.

Like other newspapers, this newspaper also started being used for everything in such a situation. In the government offices where old copies of the newspaper are collected, the officials began selling them.

Cash-strapped officials saw that copies of the Rodong Sinmun had gathered dust for decades, so they thought it best to sell them. He was getting huge amounts of money in exchange for selling newspapers. But soon, this matter came to the government’s notice, after which the action started.

Greg Scarlatoiu, director of the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, told The Mirror, “Very reliable sources have confirmed that many people have been sent to prison. Cigarette rolling paper is scarce in North Korea, so people often have to roll their cigarettes.” Recently, several people were sent to a camp because they wrapped their tobacco in scraps of newspaper containing pictures of Kim Jong-un.

A source in South Pyongan province told Radio Free Asia (RFA) that two women in their 40s were arrested on Saturday for selling newspapers. One woman used Rodong Sinmun newspaper as a cake wrapper, while the other was a tobacco seller. These were caught by police officers patrolling in clothes.
