Russia Seeks To Expand Ties With Pakistan, Sends First Shipment Of Oil

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Russia is keen to expand and deepen bilateral ties with Pakistan as the first consignment of subsidized Russian oil reached Karachi port over the weekend.

Express Tribune newspaper reported that Lavrov said this in a video message on the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Moscow and Islamabad. The first shipment of subsidized Russian crude arrived in Karachi on Sunday after an agreement was signed between Islamabad and Moscow in April.

Russia Remembers Its Relationship With Pakistan

The Russian Foreign Minister, in his video, also talked about ongoing and future projects in Pakistan and said that the biggest steel mill in Karachi, now called Pakistan Steel Mill, was built in the 1980s. The timing was done with the involvement of Russia when the Afghanistan conflict was going on, and even after that, Russia helped Pakistan, which is a clear indication of the two countries’ engagement.

Along with this, the Russian Foreign Minister also mentioned the Guddu Thermal Power Plant, which was built with the help of Russia. He said, “Our relations are advanced and based on trust. They are based on convergence or closeness of approach to major issues on the international agenda. Together with our Pakistani partners, we look forward to shaping a more just and democratic multipolar world order.”
