The story of a fisherman in Pakistan becoming a millionaire overnight is gaining discussion worldwide. Fisherman Ibrahim Haidari found a rare fish in the Arabian Sea and became rich overnight by selling it.
According to media reports, when Haji Baloch set out from Karachi port towards the sea on Monday, he had no idea that he would earn such vast wealth, which he could not achieve even by adding up his entire life’s earnings.
While searching for fish, luckily, he found a large flock of golden fish, i.e. sowa fish, in the sea. Haji said that he never thought that he would get this rare fish. Haji said he would share the money with his team of seven.
According to the news agency PTI report, Sowa fish is sold at such a high price because the substances from its stomach have medicinal properties and are considered helpful in curing many incurable diseases. Reports state that a thread-like substance extracted from the fish is used in surgical procedures.
Haji Baloch told the press, “We were fishing in the open sea off Karachi… when we found this huge hoard of goldfish, and it was unexpected for us.”
Haji Baloch’s crew wasted no time in fishing and returned to port as quickly as possible. On Friday, a rare auction of this goldfish was witnessed at Karachi Port. Baloch earned 70 million, i.e. 7 crore Pakistani rupees, by selling just a few fish.
Baloch said the price of one fish in the auction is around Rs 70 lakh. His boat crew was lucky enough to catch some of them, which helped them earn big bucks.
The weight of Sowa, i.e. Golden Fish, is generally between 20 to 40 kg and its length can be up to 1.5 meters. It is in great demand in East Asian countries.
Sowa also holds cultural and traditional significance in traditional medicines and local cuisine. Experts say these rare fish only come near the coast during breeding.
