18th Century Tamil Manuscripts Found in Italy; Indian Experts Revealed Its Secrets

Some manuscripts from the 18th century are kept in an Armenian monastery in northern Italy. Much research was done on him, but no one understood him. An expert from India has revealed its secret and told the world that they are Tamil manuscripts of the 18th century.

Tamil Bharathan is a doctoral expert at the Special Center for Tamil Studies at Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Recently he was allowed to see the manuscripts kept in a monastery in northern Italy. On which he understood him and told the world about him.

Bharathan requested the Italian authorities to access those manuscripts for several days, and only then did he get permission. He recently went to a seminar organized in Venice. From there, he went to a monastery in northern Italy.

After reaching there, Bharathan seeks help from Margherita Trento, a professor. She has done much research on Roman Catholics and the establishment of Christianity in Tamil Nadu. Trento believes this may be a copy of the first translation of the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius into Tamil.

According to Bharathan, the library had named the manuscripts as ‘Indian Papyrus Lamulic Language–XIII Century’, but they did not know that it was the Tamil language. The Math believes that Armenians in Chennai may have taken the manuscripts to Italy. It is also important to tell you here that Tamil is recognized as the oldest language in the world.

The good news is that Bharathan has been tasked with cataloguing the manuscripts. He will soon visit the Roja Muthiah Research Library in Chennai for further research.
