Google’s Massive Investment Of Rs 88,730 Crore In India Will Create 188,220 New Jobs Every Year

Google to Invest in Visakhapatnam: India is rapidly moving towards a digital world, and a historic step has now been taken in this direction. Google has announced that it will establish its largest data centre outside the US in Visakhapatnam, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This initiative could prove to be a major “turning point” in India’s digitalisation.

Google’s $10 Billion Investment

According to an official release issued by the Andhra Pradesh government, Google will invest approximately US$10 billion (approximately ₹88,730 crore) to build a 1-gigawatt data centre. This Investment will take data security, cloud services, and AI infrastructure to new heights in India.

A total of 30 investment proposals worth ₹1.14 lakh crore were approved at the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. These proposals include projects in IT, fuel, tourism, space, food processing, and other sectors. These investments are expected to create approximately 67,000 new jobs in the state.

India’s Largest Foreign Investment Ever

According to the release, the investment proposal for the Raiden Infotech Data Centre, worth ₹87,520 crore, is considered the most significant foreign direct Investment (FDI) in the country’s history.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said, “Efforts made over the last 15 months to attract investors are now bearing fruit. New opportunities for large-scale employment generation and economic growth are opening up in the state.” During the meeting, the government also decided to appoint a special project officer for each significant project, who will be responsible for implementing the project.

Investment and Employment Statistics to Date

In the 11 meetings of the SIPB so far, investment proposals worth over ₹7 lakh crore have been approved. These projects are expected to create approximately 6.2 lakh jobs. This massive Investment by Google will prove to be a milestone for India’s digital ecosystem. This hyperscale data centre, to be built in Visakhapatnam, will play a key role in establishing India as a global digital infrastructure hub. It will not only be a data centre, but it will also be the backbone of India’s digital future.
