Air India-Boeing Deal: Air India will soon buy 220 Boeing aircraft from America. On Tuesday (February 14), US President Joe Biden praised the agreement and described it as historic. Air India will buy 220 Boeing aircraft for $34 billion. Apart from this, there will be an option to buy 70 more aircraft. This will make the real deal $45.9 billion.
Joe Biden said in a statement that America can and will lead the world in manufacturing. I am proud to announce today the purchase of over 200 American-made aircraft through a historic agreement between Air India and Boeing. The investment will support more than one million jobs in 44 states, and many will not require a four-year college degree. Biden also said that with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he is looking forward to further deepening the relationship between India and America.
Air India and France’s Airbus Also Signed A Deal
On Tuesday, Air India announced buying 250 aircraft from France’s Airbus. Of these, 40 will be large-size aircraft. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran gave this information. The airline is preparing to expand its fleet and operations. This is the first time in 17 years that Air India is placing orders for aircraft purchase. This is Air India’s first order after coming under the ownership of the Tata group.
The Tata Group-owned airline has signed a deal with Airbus to buy 40 wide-body A350s and 210 small-body aircraft. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron participated in the launch program of this deal between Air India and Airbus through video conferencing.
What Did The Chairman Of Tata Sons Say?
In the online meeting, Chandrasekaran said that a letter of intent had been signed with Airbus to purchase these aircraft. Large-size aircraft will be used for long-distance flights. Flights of more than 16 hours are called long-haul flights. Tata Group acquired Air India in January last year. After this acquisition, the Tata group is taking various measures to bring this airline forward.
The Airline Placed The Last Order in 2005
The airline had last placed an order for the purchase of 111 aircraft in 2005. Of these, 68 planes were ordered by Boeing and 43 by Airbus. The Tata group completed one year of the acquisition of Air India on January 27. At that time, the airline had said it was finalizing a chronological order to purchase new aircraft to drive future growth. The airline has drawn up a roadmap for transformation over the next five years under Vihaan.
