Kejriwal Government Plans Artificial Rain to Combat Delhi’s Air Pollution

To deal with the severe air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the Kejriwal government is planning to make artificial rain over the city. If the plan is successful, the people of Delhi will see artificial rain for the first time. Although this will be a new experience for the people of Delhi, this technology has been used for a long time in many countries, including China, America, Israel and South Africa; its benefits have also been found there. In our country, such artificial rain has been made in many states of South India.

How Does This Artificial Rain Happen?

To make this artificial rain, cloud seeding is done, i.e. fake clouds are prepared. For this, with the help of a plane, a chemical called silver iodide is sprayed among the already floating light clouds. By doing this, drops start forming due to moisture accumulation around the silver iodide. When these drops become heavy, they cannot bear their weight, and it starts raining there. This technology is often used to combat pollution in the Middle East and China.

What Preparations Need To Be Done?

A plane is hired to make artificial rain anywhere, and special instruments are fitted. Those instruments are filled with chemicals. After this, the plane flies over that city or area and sprays it. All this process will happen in Delhi since Delhi is the country’s capital, where big institutions like PM, President, Parliament and Supreme Court are located. Therefore, the Kejriwal government must get permission from DGCA, Home Ministry, and SPG to proceed with the scheme. This scheme can move forward only after getting NOC from there.

How Much Does Artificial Rain Cost?

Getting artificial rain done is considered an expensive deal. According to scientists, one has to hire a plane in which special instruments are fitted for chemical spray. A lot of money is spent on both these works. After this, the chemical is sprayed for Rs 2 to 5 lakh per hour. Despite this, if the wind changes, sometimes this plan fails.
