Mumbai CSMT Mega Block: There’s significant news for passengers travelling through Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Central Railway is implementing a major traffic and power block for 75 days, from October 1st to December 15th, 2026, due to redevelopment work at the station.
During this period, train operations on platforms 14 and 15 and on stabling line 15 will be completely suspended. This will have the greatest impact on passengers travelling to and from CSMT on long-distance trains.
Why is the 75-day mega block being imposed?
This mega block is being implemented as part of Phase 1 of the ₹2,450 crore redevelopment project for CSMT station. This phase is being carried out by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). During this phase, foundation and infrastructure work will be carried out on platforms 14 and 15 and stabling line 15. Heavy machinery, including drilling rigs, cranes, and concrete mixers, will be used. In the interest of passenger and employee safety, it has been decided to suspend train operations on these platforms and associated tracks.
What work will be carried out at CSMT?
Foundation work: Concrete foundations will be laid by excavating the ground directly on platforms 14 and 15, and on stabling line 15, to support a large elevated passenger concourse to be constructed in the future.
Station upgrade: The station will be upgraded to enhance passenger convenience, with amenities including a retail zone, a waiting area, and improved parcel facilities.
Track modernisation: Durable and low-maintenance ballastless tracks will be laid on the affected platform lines.
Infrastructure shifting: Existing overhead cables, signal wires, and utility pipelines will be safely relocated as needed for construction.
Platform power outage: During Phase 1 construction, heavy drilling machines, concrete mixers, and cranes will occupy platform space. Therefore, to ensure the safety of both passengers and workers, the platform power and tracks will be completely shut down.
Which trains will be affected?
Due to the 75-day block, eight long-distance mail/express trains will no longer reach CSMT. They will be short-terminated at Dadar or Thane. Train traffic on platforms 14 and 15 will be completely suspended during this entire period.

What will be the impact on local train passengers?
According to information, local trains will not be directly cancelled during this mega block. However, because long-distance trains terminate at Dadar and Thane, passenger traffic at these two stations may increase. This may lead to additional crowding on platforms and connecting local trains, especially during peak hours.
If you are planning to travel by long-distance train from or to CSMT between October and December, be sure to check your train status in advance. Also, leave home with some extra time for your journey, keeping in mind the extra crowds at Dadar and Thane stations.
