There has been an uproar over Dravid being rested. Former India coach Ravi Shastri has criticized the Rahul Dravid-led staff for taking a break from the New Zealand tour. Now Indian spinner R Ashwin has come to the rescue of Dravid. He answered Ravi Shastri’s questions and explained the reason for VVS Laxman’s appointment as coach.
During a virtual press conference, Shastri said, “I do not believe in breaks. Because I want to understand my team, I want to understand my players. Why do you need so many breaks? You get your 2-3 months during IPL. That’s enough to rest as a coach.”
Ashwin Came To The Rescue of Dravid
Ravichandran Ashwin has now come to Dravid’s rescue. He pointed out that the players, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, needed rest, and the support staff also required rest after the T20 World Cup.
Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “Laxman has gone there with a completely different team. Rahul Dravid and his team worked hard to plan the T20 World Cup, as I watched it closely. He had plans for every match and team. So they were tired not only mentally but also physically. Everybody needed a break. As soon as the New Zealand series ends, let us go to Bangladesh; Laxman will not be there.”
VVS Laxman Has Been Appointed Coach for New Zealand Tour
It may be noted that VVS Laxman, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Sairaj Bahutule have been sent to New Zealand in place of Dravid, Vikram Rathour, and Paras Mhambrey as head coach, batting and bowling coach, respectively. Dravid and his coaching staff will be present with the team for the Bangladesh tour on December 4.
